The pile is 100% coir (fiber from the outer husk of a coconut).  The back is a PVC rubber backing.

Every doormat is hand painted and will vary slightly.

We use exterior paint and seal the mat with a clear protective coat.  We suggest you keep it in a covered area, such as a patio, porch or entryway, so that the fibers don't fade from the sun or get darker from the rain.

To clean, simply shake out the mat.
